HISTORY OF THE BOYUP BROOK FAMILY PLAYGROUP Our Playgroup was started by a group of Mums in 1978 in what is now the Tourist Bureau. The building was shared with Meals on Wheels catering, was unfenced and had only a bit of muddy grass for the children to play on. The average attendance back then was 8 -10 Mums who took turns in providing the morning tea and running an activity for the children - a tradition that we still maintain today. Some toys were hired on a monthly basis from a travelling toy van which was based in Manjimup, but the most favourite activity was playing with homemade playdoh. In the late 1980's a group of 6 Mums got together to seek funding for a new purpose-built building. They knew nothing about funding submissions nor who to apply to for help but decided to go ahead and raise the $25 000 that it was going to cost anyway! Today we have a great building with a secure perimeter fence, storage shed for all the toys we own, a brand new playground and a growing membership of 32 families...and homemade playdoh is still very popular! |
